Gary Rhodes

Gary Rhodes

Gary Rhodes is a multiple Michelin Star-awarded chef who created and oversees Arcadian Rhodes, the intimate and upscale dining venue on board Arcadia, the largest ship in the UK P&O Cruises’ fleet ever to visit Australia.

Gary is credited for reinventing the great British classics and becoming an ambassador for British cuisine. In fact, he has been instrumental in re-introducing Brits to their rich gastronomic heritage with his modern interpretations of traditional dishes.

Born in South London in 1960, Gary grew up in Kent and began preparing family meals to help out his mother when she worked. By 13 he had mastered the Sunday roast and one day he followed it with a classic British dessert – a steamed lemon sponge pudding.

After training at a local technical college Gary worked in restaurants in Europe and London before accepting a position as head chef at the Castle Hotel in Taunton, Somerset.

At the age of 26, Gary retained the hotel’s Michelin Star and discovered his talent for turning traditional cuisine into modern British classics.

When he moved to the Greenhouse Restaurant in London’s Mayfair as Head Chef, Gary quickly established himself as one of the UK’s master chefs and in January 1996 he won his second Michelin Star and the first Michelin Star for the Greenhouse.

Since then Gary has opened several restaurants, won more Michelin stars and become a household name thanks to his TV appearances hosting top-rating program such as Masterchef, Hell's Kitchen, and his own series, Rhodes Around Britain.

In 2004 he joined forces with P&O Cruises and opened Arcadian Rhodes, bringing superb cuisine to cruise passengers. In April 2007, he followed this success with Oriana Rhodes, also serving his contemporary British creations.
